Feeder Feed Chute Repairs Reduced by 600 per cent
Location: Zambia, Africa
Material Handled: Copper/Gold
Handling System: Conveyor
Handling Rate: 4000 Tonnes per Hour (TPH)
An African copper/gold mine’s feeder feed chute experienced high wear causing costly shutdowns every three months.
The feeder feed chute was lined with 300mm x 300mm and 31mm thick Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate.
Shutdowns for repair consisted of 72 hours at $100,000.00 per hour.
This resulted in costly liner maintenance over an 18 month period.
WEARX introduced a rotable tub system providing 18 months of processing availability.
Shutdown change-outs were reduced from 72 hours to only 12 hours.
An improved liner system was introduced consisting of 20mm Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate and 11mm of mild steel for longer wear life. Liner plates were also made larger to reduce the number of consumable parts in the lining system.
The tub was rebuilt in a workshop environment delivering the following benefits:
- No confined spaces
- No working at heights
- No hot work permit
The installation of the rotable tub system saved the mine $42,000,000.00 in downtime costs in the first
18 months (1 change out vs. 6 change outs).
